SOCIAL MEDIA SENSATION SARA ASIYA JOINS THE CAST as a recurring character and throws in a bit of girl power
From funny video rants to becoming a social media star, it can’t have happened overnight, or did it? Tell us the story! Where did it all begin?
It started about 3 years ago, I travelled a lot with my job and spent a lot of time by myself in my hotel room, this eventually turned into me ranting at my phone as going out and talking to humans was to social for my antisocial, recluse of a self.
Staying motivated in the social media industry must be tough, even the most famous of celebrities have the biggest de-motivational periods. How do you stay motivated?
This is going to sound a bit cheese but the thing that keeps me going is the support from people. You couldn’t do it without them so that naturally its my biggest motivation. I enjoy the fact people enjoy my content, I like that they can relate and somewhere out there I may of helped someone. To leave people better spirited than when you found them (or they found you) is the best feeling in the world.
In the forever changing social media world, what are a few difficulties you face in keeping up with it and staying relevant?
You know what I like to stick to doing what I love and the content that feels right to me. In an ever changing world you’ll always need to try and be ‘relevant’ - if you just do the content you love you won’t ever have that pressure. I started my social media because the content was something I loved doing, if I add too much pressure it takes the fun and the creativity away from me and that isn’t what I want. I think its about doing what you love and the forever changing world shouldn’t take that away from you.
Who are your biggest inspirations? In life and in your career?
Another wet wipe answer but my mum is my biggest inspiration and the most important thing in my life.
Now let’s talk about Corner Shop Show! You play the role of ‘Esta’, can you tell us a bit about the character without giving any spoilers? What’s she like as a person?
She’s quite similar to me I think! This came far too natural to me for my liking! She has little patience and clearly a woman who know’s what she wants! I don’t want to give too much away but lets just say she isn’t someone you want to get on the wrong side of! Or someone you want to marry, or be friends with, or have around in general. Ok can I take the last statement back please?! She nothing like me!! However her dry sense of humour is def a bit of me!
What did you do to prepare for this role?
Intense mirror acting as I haven’t done anything like this before!!
Are there any similarities to yourself and the character ‘Esta’?
Yes for sure, we are both quite dry in our humour. I feel like she is a bolder version of me!
Corner Shop Show has a big cult fanbase, with thousands of young people & families watching around the world. How does it feel to be part of the ‘Corner Shop Crew’?
I have been a fan for a long time now, Islah and I were always talking about casting me in a role, it's finally happened so its a real pleasure!!
Lastly, without sounding too cheesy, what advice would you give to someone out there who’s reading and wants to chase a dream like yours?
JUST GET UP AND DO IT!! Forget what anyone thinks, just go for it. You have nothing to lose!
